When To Use Fill In Flash In Day Light

I found an excellent article on how to use fill in flash to take photo under bright sun light.

Here I reprinting the same for your reference.

If you have pictures where the foreground is too dark while the background seems to be correctly exposed, then using fill-in flash may be a technique worth learning about. Using fill-in flash, as the name implies, is to use flash to fill-in light where it is deficient. This is usually the situation when you are in the shadows and shooting through objects in the foreground that are acting as a frame.

In the photo above, I was standing in a shaded spot and using the foliage as a frame. Without fill-in flash to illuminate the foreground, the latter would be quite dark. Shutter speed: 1/180 sec., Aperture: F2.8, ISO 50 with fill-in flash. (Exposure compensation was -0.7EV but that was because I forgot to reset it for a previous picture.)

Instead of the leaves, imagine a person stood in the foreground. Unless you wanted to silhouette the person (this can be quite effective in producing a dramatic picture), fill-in flash would throw in just enough light to illuminate the face.

A most pleasant effect can sometimes be achieved by photographing a person against the sun (or another strong light source). The light behind his or her head creates a halo around the edge of the hair. The face would be quite underexposed but for fill-in flash. Shooting against the sun also avoids your subject squinting in the sun.

To use fill-in flash, set your digital camera so that it is forced to fire the flash. Do not confuse with Night Shot scene mode which is similar but generally used at nightime for night portraits. In this case the flash fires to illuminate the foreground, while the shutter remains open a while longer to expose the background. You need to keep the camera steady until after the flash has fired and the shutter has closed.

Tips on making money through Stock Photography

Stock photography is one of the most popular areas of digital photography because it has opened the doors for even amateurs to make some money. Different stock photography websites have different requirements but the main thing is that you should know what to sell, to whom and how. This is something that you can learn through first hand experience or by downloading information and e-books related to camera dollars system from the internet. But here are 5 important tips for stock photography:

Only high quality pictures can sell, everything else is a waste to time.

As a photographer you need to always try and better yourself every time. You need to take some time out to learn new thing, experiment, understand the various aspects of digital photography, and above all read plenty of books. Try out new ways of making the subject look brighter or sharper or even dull. Always remember that it is tougher to sell abstract pictures, so stick to the normal pictures that people can relate to.

Fight rejection
Rejection is something that you will counter quote often as your picture might not be up to the standard of buyers. Don’t get disheartened because photography is itself an art of patience and perseverance, without either of them, you will be left far behind. Every failure should be treated like a wake-up call.

It is all about numbers
If you are trying to sell stock photography then you need to think not in ones and two but in hundreds. The more images you have in stock, the higher the probability of making money, more money. You should always keep working constantly towards adding more images to your portfolio. The bigger and better your portfolio is, the higher your chances are of making money.

Market your images
Marketing your images is an important aspect. The more people see your images, the more buyers you may get. In order to do so, you will need to sign up on multiple websites and upload your images in each of the websites. Ten is a good number to start with.

Add Keywords to your image
Yes! The SEO rule applies here too. You should take out time to add a relevant keyword to your image. The keyword is used by potential buyers to find photographs. So if a potential buyer is searching using French Landscape then they will find your images if you have used the same keyword.

These are some of the basic tips and you can find many others using the camera dollars system e-book and find potential buyers who are willing to pay a good price for all your hard work!

digital photography imaging and animation

I found an excellent article on creating animated image in an article and publish the same in gather by Mr. Bill. I found this is an outstanding piece of work.

Here is Mr. Bill's original article.

Well ... would you believe ... magic ... (-;

Ok oK! ... but really ... one of these days y'all have to take magic as the answer ...

Nope, you still can't directly upload gif's on Gather. Not the way you typically upload images like JPGs or video using the tools Gather supplies onsite. You have to employ a little bit of magic in the form of HTML code editing in Gather's article publishing tool.

So ... how do you do it???

First you steal a chicken
... oops ...
that's how gypsies make authentic Hungarian Paprikash!
... which also involves a bit of magic ... (-;

I used three different image editing applications to create the GIF for the change:

*

* MS Photo Editor
* MS Paint
* Animator @ LunaPics

Please note, you do not have to use the same image editing applications. You can use your favourite image editing and/or drawing programs, and any animation software you have on your computer or use an online GIF animator to assemble the final image.

Image Creation:
First come up with a theme and select photos to express your theme.

Edit and size your photos. It is best to have all the images the same size. If you want to use a smaller image, edit it, and then open a blank new image in your photo editing application the same size as your other images. Then copy & paste and center the smaller image on the blank and save. Don't use very large images because your final image.gif will be a terribly huge file. The GIF processing is accumulative and adds all the bytes of all the images you use to create it plus some extra bytes to run the animation. I used images sized to the 550px Gather display width. My final image uses five photos and was just shy of 1 Mb total.

Add the captions. I created new blank images in MS Photo Editor slightly taller than my edited photos. Then copy & pasted my photos on the blanks so there would be a margin at the bottom for the captions. After saving the new images, I opened them in MS Paint and added the text for the captions.

Next I created my title page, again opening and saving a blank image in MS Photo Editor and sized the same as the other images. Then opened the image in Paint, added the background colour, title text, and then painted the accompanying scene. Then made the final panel following the same steps but with just text on white.

Improving Picture Quality With Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is the leading photo editing software program. It is used throughout the world by the most elite professional photographers to make their pictures look immaculate. It is also used by entertainment industry photographers, as well as "airbrush experts" at top magazines, tabloids, etc., to make famous people look skinnier, healthier and younger.

These people have been using Photoshop for years and have become experts in their respective crafts. With a little training and practice, you can accomplish the same results, and transform your photos from "good to great."

Adobe Photoshop can be used for many types of photo adjustments and enhancements.

  • Adjust eyes (open closed eyes, remove red eye and/or adjust color)
  • Remove areas of fat (such as a double chin)
  • Make teeth whiterS
  • moothen skin
  • Disguise blemishes
  • Hide scarring
  • Add hair to bald spots
  • Hide body piercings
  • Delete tattoos
  • Hide acne

Clever use of Adobe Photoshop can truly make anyone, in any picture, look several degrees better (the trick is to not overdo it so as to make the subject look fake; professional experts have developed a sense of what's "just right" - with practice, you will, too).

What is cameradollars

Digital photography has been evolving since the time the first ever digital camera was commercially launched and I, among many others, find it a great medium for capturing the silence of nature, dialogues amongst the winds, and the historical past. Of course, I do a lot more with my digital camera than just take pictures like anyone else would; I try to take a picture that tells a story or that is like none other. Experimentation with different features of a digital camera is important and so is the knowledge of exposure, focus, aperture, metering, and light conditions.

Once you have taken a beautiful photograph that speaks a million words, what next? Well there are many opportunities that have started to spring up even for an amateur photographer. You will not only get the satisfaction of having captured life through your lens but also get paid for it. That’s the part I like!

So how can you make money by taking pictures? Download the e-book called Camera Dollars System, being sold by Brian Moore over the Internet. It is like the bible for amateur digital photographers as it explains in detail how to submit your photographs to stock photo sites and get the best possible fee or commission on each of your photograph. After all, getting anything from $500 to $1500 for taking pictures is super fun!

Top 10 Photography Tips

I have compiled 'Top Ten Tips on digital phoptography for those people who don't like to read a lot.

1 Selection

Select only the best of your pictures to show to others and leave the rest in the drawer. Showing someone every picture you have taken dilutes the effect of the best pictures and gets very boring.

2 Turn the Camera on it's SideAt first it feels awkward holding the camera on it's side, but it is worth getting used to. If the shape of your subject, a person or a building, fits into an upright rectangle, you waste so much picture space if you shoot in landscape. You paid for all those millions of pixels, don't waste them. -

3 Framing
One of the easiest ways to improve your photography is with careful attention to framing. Look into the corners of the viewfinder to see what is there. Do you need all that background? Can you get closer to your subject or zoom in?

4 Direction of Lighting Photography is all about light, the direction of the light falling on your subject is most important, you must look at your subject carefully and see how the shadows fall.

If you are able to choose the time of day to shoot your pictures, try to pick a time when the sun is low in the sky, either shoot in the early morning or late afternoon.

If you are photographing in sunlight, try to position yourself so that the sun hits your subject from the side, this will give you nice 'modelling' and help create a 3D effect in the picture.

5 Direction of Lighting

The very worst kind of lighting is provided by the little flash fitted into all modern cameras. Not only does it give your subjects the dreaded red eyes, but also flattens all faces into shadowless featureless blobs. Use the in camera flashlight only in an emergency, when there is no other choice.

6 In Camera Flash
When you have to use the in camera flash, keep your subject(s) away from walls, especially light coloured ones, if at all possible, and avoid that ugly black shadow which looks like an outline. This will not show up against a dark background.

7. Exposure

Using auto exposure to your advantage. If you have a modern camera, the chances are that the default metering system is 'centre weighted average', which means that, although it takes an average reading of the whole scene, it takes more notice of what is in the middle of the frame. Which is good news for us.

8 Shutter Speeds When the shutter speed is important as with moving objects, it's a good idea to set the camera to 'Shutter Speed Priority' mode. This is where you select the shutter speed and the camera selects the appropriate aperture according to the light reading.

9 Apertures

If depth of field is important to either make sure everything is in focus or to throw some things out of focus, select the 'Aperture Priority' mode on your camera. In this mode you select the aperture and the camera selects the shutter speed according to the available light.

10 Neutral Density Filters

If you are shooting in bright light and want to restrict the depth of field, use a neutral density filter in front of the lens to reduce the light entering the lens. These are available in different densities, 2x, 4x, 8x etc. each one cutting the light in half, quarter, eighth etc. In extreme circumstances you can screw a couple of them together.
